I'll continue self-publishing, but you're right, doing it properly is expensive and takes a lot of marketing effort. I'm feverishly (well, for me) working to finalise my new book so I can publish mid-October.
I agree, it's considering your own pros and cons for the different methods, not inherently good and bad. I like your sang-froid about the whole business, which I need sometimes.
